Dr. D.G. Vijay is a highly accomplished breast oncology expert with over three decades of experience, bringing his vast knowledge and expertise to the Breastics Foundation Board of Directors. A graduate of B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, he completed his surgical training at Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College and earned his super-specialization in Surgical Oncology from the Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute. He further refined his skills with advanced training in breast reconstruction at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, and attended esteemed workshops at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan and the Royal College of Surgeons in England.
A pioneer in breast conservation and reconstruction surgeries, Dr. Vijay has introduced advanced techniques, including the Latissimus dorsi flap, TRAM flap, and implants, significantly enhancing treatment outcomes for breast cancer patients. He is a sought-after speaker and panelist, contributing to state, national, and international forums, and delivered the prestigious Dr. Santok Singh Anand Endowment Lecture for the Association of Surgeons of India in 2021.
Dr. Vijay serves as the President of the Association of Breast Surgeons of India, a position that underscores his leadership and influence in advancing breast cancer care in India and beyond. He is the founder-director of the HCG Aastha Cancer Centre in Ahmedabad, where he also serves as the Dean of Academics for the DNB (Diplomate of National Board) program. Additionally, he has spearheaded major conferences, including the Gujarat Breast Meet and ABSICON 2023.
An advocate for patient education, he has authored two impactful books: “Questions from Her to Her 2” (English/Gujarati), which addresses frequently asked questions about breast cancer, and “R.I.P. – Breast Cancer,” which chronicles the real-life journeys of 11 courageous women who triumphed over the disease. Through his dedication, Dr. Vijay continues to inspire advancements in breast cancer awareness, treatment, and advocacy.
