
VASILIS VENIZELOS
Dr. Venizelos is a breast surgeon and a mastology specialist currently working as head of the Breast Unit and the director of the Breast Surgery Clinic at the Metropolitan Hospital, Athens, Greece. He is also the current president of the Hellenic Breast Surgery Society (EXEM). Dr. Venizelos worked at the University of Manchester as a consultant surgeon and also completed his Master’s Degree in Breast Oncology between 1990 and 1995. From the beginning of his training, his special interest was the treatment of breast conditions. After completing his specialty he was devoted to developing oncoplastic surgery methods aiming to achieve a completely safe result in an oncological and aesthetical point of view. In 1997, he was selected by the internationally famous Edinburgh Breast Unit (Western General Hospital) initially as Staff Grade Breast Surgeon and then as Director of the Breast Unit of the Dumfirmling Hospital. He actively participated in the preoperative diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast conditions. He particularly took action in the improvement and development of the immediate breast reconstruction method with the latissimus dorsi muscle. In 1999 he presented, for the first time in Greece, results from the application of the sentinel lymph nodes detection method using radioactive material. In 2000, he returned to Greece and in 2002 was positioned in LITO Obstetrics Clinic as Breast Clinic Director, and in 2005 in the Breast Clinic of Euroclinic Athens. Since 2009, he undertook the management and organization of the Metropolitan Hospital’s Breast Unit and Surgery Breast Clinic.
